Summary

Being possessed by a vampire sucks!

Alana Jones’s world has been completely turned upside-down after being bitten by a vampire’s reflection in a cursed mirror. Now she’s forced to stay in an abandoned Victorian inn on an isolated island off the west coast of Florida, where Alana lives a double life: one as herself and one as a vicious murderer. Over the past year, she has spilt and drunk the blood of sixteen victims. The guilt of their deaths slowly eating away her sanity.

Sixteen dead . . .

However, things become even more complicated when Alana finds Cole, a surfer she felt a connection with the moment they met on the mainland, locked up in the island’s shed. Knowing his death is inevitable, she attempts to distant herself from him, continually reminding herself of the monster residing underneath her skin. Unfortunately, it’s a small island, and the more she interacts with Cole, the more her feelings grow for him.

Eventually, she has to make a decision. Either accept his fate or find a way to expel the vampire’s spirit from within herself before she murders him as well.

Excerpt

Opening the refrigerator in the downstairs kitchen, I pull out the grocery bags Charissa stored for me, including the hardware items I purchased for Cole. I’m surprised Charissa didn’t ask questions or throw them right into the ocean like she’s apparently been doing with everyone’s cell phone, laptops, tablets, and wallets. Guess she’s so confident she doesn’t bother to notice what I bring home. Or doesn’t care. Unconcerned, I put the bag full of random hardware aside on the island counter. I accidently brush my hand up against one of the tools I bought for Cole, which for some reason burns like dry ice. I withdraw with a hiss, looking for any redness along the side of my palm. Fortunately, I find nothing wrong. No blisters. No discoloration. No signs of a burn. I turn back to the refrigerator to continue unpacking when I jump back with a scream.

Nick’s dismembered body is stuffed onto the shelves of the refrigerator.

Nick was our fifth victim. A student of the culinary arts. He hadn’t been around long, but as it was, he familiarized himself with the kitchen quickly. Just after Charissa’s return trip to the mainland, I found Nick like this, with our groceries stored on the top shelf, his head on the next, and his torso below. His arms and legs were crammed—torn and broken—into the vegetable and fruit storage bins. Charissa thought it had been hilarious. After all, I use the “ice box” to keep food fresh, so why couldn’t she? Except, Charissa wasn’t the one who had to clean the refrigerator out. All existing food was thrown into the trash. Every shelf was scrubbed within an inch of its life. The only good thing that came out of the entire experience, for the first and last time, was that I had the island all to myself for an entire week before Charissa collected a new victim. One week with no one to scold or chastise me. No one to run and hide from in fear.

Sixteen dead.
