Blurb

Foreign, or rather unfamiliar, would be the word I would use to describe how I felt.

Faintly, I could hear the glimmer of voices surrounding me in this dark haze, caressing my ears like skin against silk. I felt like I was in a cocoon of sorts, protectively enveloped, quietly drifting in some far-off place. I wanted to stay that way forever.

But we all know that what you want never really seems to happen in the real world.

Something’s not right in Mia’s head.

The first thing is that her name isn’t Mia. In fact, she has no clue what her name is—who she is. All that she knows is that she’s not like the ones who found her: Dante with his kind blue eyes, Amy with her child-like demeanor, James with his questioning gaze.

And Briggs.

The one she cannot decipher no matter how hard she tries.

As Mia tries to fit in with these people, a strange occurrence is amidst outside. And as she finally remembers who she is …

Well, let’s just say that things get a little more complicated.

Review

The characters

The story begins with our heroine waking up in a room, not being able to talk or remember her name, her past, her life, with four other strangers.Three of them,Dante,Amy and James, welcome her and agree to provide her with food and shelter. All agree except Briggs. The moment he sees her,he looks at her with so much hatred. The thing is no one knows why...

Amy is Dante's brother. She's happy and excited to have a girl to talk to.She also has deep feelings for James but she never admits that.It turns out that the exact same thing applies to James as well. Both Amy and James welcome Mia,that's the name Amy chose for her, into their small family.

Dante is sweet and caring. He takes good care of her and keeps her company. He doesn't care that she can't even talk. His feelings for her are pretty obvious and Mia is feeling the same thing for her. Then, there's Briggs, who can't even stand being in the same room as Mia.He leaves in the morning and returns back at night.Amy and Mia aren't allowed to go outside because it's not safe for them but one night curiosity leads Mia to breaking that rule and following Briggs. She is surprised when she finds out that he spends all his time burying the dead. There's also something about Briggs that Mia can't explain, but that same thing attracts her to him.

Verdict

Reap is one of the best novellas I've read. It's less than 100 pages but I really didn't care because I couldn't stop reading it!The story is beautifully written and I honestly didn't expect that twist in the end.Christina Channelle is a talented author and she just keeps proving it!

Author Interview

Thank you so much for answering my questions Christina!

Reap…I love the cover by the way! Tell us a few things about it.

Thank you! It’s a YA Contemporary Romance. You don’t really see the romance in the beginning but it’s there, I swear! The MC is named Mia and she’s a special one. She wakes up with no memory of who she is and can’t express herself through voice. She is welcomed by a peculiar bunch, each unique in their own way. She becomes almost trapped in this apartment that she wakes up to as there’s a mysterious danger for females outside. As the story progresses, she finally remembers who she really is.

Let's talk about Mia.Did she give you a hard time while writing Reap?

She’s probably one of the easiest person to write about. She was literally a blank canvas. I enjoyed writing about Mia and in her POV. This story goes through different stages so I got to write about her as she figured out who she was.

Is it a standalone or should we expect a sequel?

Look in the future for a sequel, although I can’t tell you when. I’m currently working on the plot and have written a few pages and notes. I already have the cover and title done which I’m keeping to myself, and the sequel is planned to be a full length book.

How long did it take you to finish it?

I tend to write my books in stages, i.e. whenever I have time to dedicate to my writing. I started it a few years ago, like many of my stories. It was only recently that I had the opportunity to focus and finish this story.

Your area of expertise is Young Adult books. Have you ever thought of writing an Adult book? And what genre would that be?

Perhaps in the future I may write an Adult book. It most likely would be a contemporary, maybe chic-lit with some humorous elements. I’ve been told I’m funny. Maybe I should put it to the test, lol.

What do you like most about writing for this age group?

I’m young at heart and I’ve always enjoyed both reading and writing YA. I think for me, it’s that happy ending that most YA stories have.

From starting writing books to becoming a recognized author, it’s a long way. How was it when you first started?

It was difficult. I had no idea what I was doing … still don’t know what I’m doing at times, lol. It’s definitely a learning curve as I made this journey on my own as a self-published author. But it was fun, designing book covers, figuring out how to make ebook and book versions of my story, making friends in the indie world. There were a few low moments as well but the good outweighs the not so great. I’m still this little indie author that hopefully when people read my books, they’ll enjoy it. That’s all that I can ask for.

What are you currently reading?

Pocket Full of Posies by Angela Roquet.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I’m working on a few projects, the final book in the Blood Crave series, Sage, and the follow up to Those Four Letter Words. Sage completes the series and brings all the characters in the series to the forefront. An epic battle will ensue, and love between an unlikely pair is brewing, despite one’s sheer hatred for the other. In Those Four Letter Words, Jade is back with her sassy self, along with her one true love and her pain in the ass brother. She’s finally happy until shit hits the fan because of course, things can never be great in Jade’s world.

Thank you for your time!

Excerpt

I could hear the waves of the ocean crashing behind us, our feet buried in the warm sand, the grains getting between our toes. We held each other firmly, as if either one of us would instantly drop to the ground without the support of the other. His large hands gripped my waist, then loosened oh so slightly. He trailed his fingers up and down my sides, my body shivering in response. In return, I clutched the back of his neck and smiled against his skin. Showering tiny kisses along the column of his neck, I breathed in his intoxicating, familiar scent.
“You know, you’re eventually going to have to let me go,” his low voice rumbled over my head.
