Blog Tour:Wish I May (New Hope #2) by Lexi Ryan {Author Interview + Giveaway}

Author: Lexi Ryan
Title: Wish I May
Series: New Hope #2
Publication Date: October 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

BOOK SUMMARY

I grew up wishing on stars.

My father taught me to believe…in destiny, in magic, in happily ever after. Dreams were my scripture and the starry night sky was my temple. Then Mom stopped believing, left him, and took us with her. At the age of sixteen, I cashed in my dreams to pay the rent, pawned my destiny to keep my sisters together.

Now, seven years later, I’m returning home, grieving the death of my mother, and settling my sisters back into the life Mom threw away. I never intended to stay. I don’t want to deal with my father, who is so invested in the spiritual world he forgets the physical. I don’t want to face William Bailey, whose eyes remind me of the girl I was, the things I’ve done, and the future I lost.
This would all be easier if Will hated me. As it is, I have to hold my secrets close so they won’t hurt him more than they’ve already hurt me. But he wants to be in my life. He wants what I can’t bring myself to confess I sold. He wants me.

I find myself looking to my stars again...wondering if I dare one more wish.

Author Interview

Tell us a few things about Wish I May.

WISH I MAY is the second book in my New Hope series. It reads as either a stand-alone or a companion story to UNBREAK ME, since we meet William in UNBREAK ME.

It's a second-chance story about what happens when you're reunited with your first love and believe you're no longer the person you were when you fell in love. Cally comes back to New Hope after seven years and faces William for the first time since she stood him up for his senior prom, and instead of hating her, he wants her. But Cally has secrets even William couldn't forgive...

Will and Cally...My next favorite New Adult couple for sure!

Awww! Thank you! They love you too! ;)

Did these two give you a hard time while writing the book?

Um, yes! LOL. They all give me a hard time, but I fought this one (rookie mistake!). If you've read it, you know that Cally has a pretty dark backstory. I kept trying to find ways around the gritty reality of it, trying to rewrite it as something more mild and less upsetting. But this book would have none of that. The moment I gave in and stopped fighting the story, it all came together. That's the way it usually works. I need a sign over my computer that says "Get out of the muse's way! She's got this!" :)

Should we expect a sequel?

I don't have plans for another book about William and Cally--I feel good about where I left them--but I am hoping to write more books set in New Hope. I'm dying to tell Hanna's story.

What do you like most about writing for this age group?

I love writing new adults/college-aged characters. This is the time period during which we really come into our own and try to discover who we are when our parents aren't around to guide us.

From starting writing books to becoming a recognized author, it’s a long way. How was it when you first started?

I've written all my life, and always with the intent of publication (what can I say? My dad taught me to dream big. :) ), so I'm not sure where my starting point was exactly. But the first time I completed one of the many novels I had started was in 2006. That novel went on to final in the Golden Heart (Romance Writers of America's prestigious contest for unpublished writers), so I was sure I had "made it." Hahahaha! I got so many rejection letters that said the same thing: "Love it but this is just a really hard sale right now." (It was a romantic comedy in a market hot for dark vampire books.)

Want to know a secret? I am so glad that first book didn't sell. I am glad my second book didn't sell either. I needed those early books to grow as a writer.

What are you currently reading?

Great question! I don't read one book at a time, so this is a fun question to answer! Last night I finished THE FAULT IN OUR STARS (loved it!!), and I'm about halfway into Kristen Proby's SAFE WITH ME (*hawt*), and I've also recently started Abbi Glines SIMPLE PERFECTION and Gillian Flynn's SHARP OBJECTS. I'm actually a really slow reader. I'm too analytical to plow through or speed read, and yet at the same time I'm impatient and always want to read so many books. As a result, I read too many at once and am even slower! :)

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I'm working on a continuity with some other NA authors that will be released in 2014. We haven't officially announced the project yet, so I can't say any more about the concept or who's involved, but I can give you a teeny tiny snippet of my part. (This is still in the works so totally unedited and subject to change.)

Mrs. Hale keeps her house stocked with Aveda products, and my skin and hair have missed high-end pampering. By the time I step out of the bathroom, I am cleaned, exfoliated, and moisturized to within an inch of my life.

I'm heading to my room when I hear his voice. "Aubrey."

I clutch the towel that's wrapped under my arms as I turn. "Kennedy." My heart pounds double-time at the sight of him and my chest aches with years of pent up longing. He's even more beautiful than I remember. His shoulders are broader, his arms thicker. Even the scruff on his jawline is sexier than I remember it.

He keeps his eyes on my face. I mean, of course he does, but I'm standing here in a freaking towel and I would have thought he'd at least look at my legs or the way the towel clings to my breasts or...something. Here I am, weak in the knees just because he didn't shave this morning, and he doesn't even have the courtesy to sneak a peek?

Unrequited love is such a bitch.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I LOVE YOU ALL! *grin* Seriously, last spring I got to resign from my job as a college English professor to write full-time. I know how lucky I am, and I know I wouldn't have been able to do that without the incredible support from my readers.

Thank you for your time,Lexi!
