Synopsis

“Our baby died on prom night, and nothing was ever the same again.”

Corabelle doesn’t feel like any of the other college girls. On what should have been one of the happiest nights of her life, she and her boyfriend Gavin watched a nurse disconnect the ventilator from their seven-day-old baby. During the funeral two days later, Gavin walked out and never returned.

Since then, her life has been a spiral of disasters. The only thing that has helped is her ability to black out whenever the pain gets too hard to bear, a habit that has become an addiction.

When Gavin shows up in her astronomy class four years later, he is hell-bent on getting her back, insisting she forgive him. Corabelle knows she can’t resist the touch that fills the empty ache that has haunted her since he left. But if he learns what she has done, if he follows the trail back through her past, her secrets will destroy their love completely. And once again, she’ll lose the only person who always believed she was innocent.

ARC Review

The story

Corabelle and Gavin were a perfectly happy eighteen year old couple who were expecting their first baby. But the baby was born with a heart defect that could not be repaired and on prom night, everything would change.Forever...

The characters

Four years later,Corabelle Rotheford is trying to finish college. She needs to attend a couple of classes and then she will be done.Because of her job at a coffee shop she wanted an easy class and that's why she chose astronomy. She was ready for a new start. After everything she'd been through these past four years she needed it.

When she was with Gavin, they wanted to attend college in San Diego because it overlooked the ocean and decided to apply there. They both got in but then life happened and Gavin disappeared.Little did she know that Gavin also wanted to finish college. He chose astronomy as well and that's when he saw her.The love of her life.

Corabelle couldn't stand being in the same classroom with Gavin, that's why she chose to switch study groups. She thought she would get away from him.But Gavin switched study groups as well because he didn't want Corabelle to feel uncomfortable. But you can't escape fate, can you?

I really liked Corabelle (I LOVE that name!) as a character. She's different from the other New Adult heroines I've read.At eighteen, she wasn't rich or famous but she was the happiest girlfriend a guy could have. She was impulsive, adventurous, sweet and getting ready to become a mom and start her family with the guy she loved. But then she lost her baby and after the funeral Gavin walked out of her life. For the past four years she went through a very hard time.Drugs and getting arrested were only some of the things that misery and sadness lead her to do.Now,she has a job and is trying to get her old life back.

Gavin Mays feels responsible for loosing their baby because he was the one to sign the papers to turn off the machines when nothing could have saved the baby. Then he left his hometown and never looked back.He just drove and had a few temporary jobs.He met women but none of them was Corabelle. Now,he's determined to get Corabelle back and make her happy again. But everybody has secrets, including these two.Let's just say the road to happiness is going to be a bumpy ride.

Verdict

A bitter-sweet love story that will make you laugh and believe in second chances because we all deserve them.A must-read for sure!
