Celeana Sardothien is the most known person in Erilea. Her occupation? A notorious assassin. Her age? Eighteen. And her present status? A prisoner in the worst place anybody could think of. She thought she was going to die in that place until one day, Dorian DeHavilliard, Adarlan’s prince and future king and Chaol Westfall, Captain of the Guards visit and offer her to be the king’s Champion, a trustworthy warrior that will fight on the king’s side. After servicing for four years, she will be free again.

She finds the offer quite tempting. How couldn’t she? And so, they start the journey back to the glass and stone palace. There is a but though. In order to become the king’s Champion, she must compete with thieves, assassins and a variety of criminals. Piece of cake for Celeana or Lady Lillian better, because nobody in the palace wants to know that the notorious assassin is just seventeen years old.
But during the Tests, Celeana gains an enemy called Katlain Rompier who wants to become Dorian’s wife. And a second enemy, an opponent named Cain who has the upper hand because of the dark power he has as an ally. But Celeana has an ally too, a friend, the princess of Eyllwe, Nehemia Ytger.

Moreover, she has to deal with every girl’s problem. Feelings. She falls for Dorian but Chaol is the one who understands her better than anyone. A lot of decisions to be made and very little time for Celeana to chooce.

Sara J.Maas’ debut novel will captivate you. Assassins, mysterious murders, crushes, a hot prince, a faceless evil and a cute Captain of the Guards… Do I even have to say more?

Goodreads synopsis:

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
